Painted Desert Neighborhood Information
Construction began on Painted Desert in 1987, introducing desert architecture for the first time to the Las Vegas valley, similar to the existing communities in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Over the years, the community has been updated regularly so that the landscaped common areas have retained their natural beauty. Painted Desert was even awarded a beautification award in 2004 by former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman.
The centerpiece of the community is the acclaimed Painted Desert Golf Course designed by Jay Moorish, a challenging par 72 that plays 6,840 yards from the back tees with narrow fairways and target greens. (Moorish was also the architect of such other notable courses like Talking Rock Golf Club in Prescott, AZ, The Boulders in Scottsdale, AZ, and Clint Eastwood’s Tehama Golf Club in Carmel, CA.) The course, though public, also offers several affordable membership options for golf aficionados.
Residents of Painted Desert also have easy access to a number of local attractions besides the Las Vegas Strip. The community is close to skiing and hiking at Mount Charleston, the wonders of the Red Rock Preservation District, and the beauty of Floyd Lamb State Park. For shopping and dining, both Centennial Hills and the Town Center at Summerlin are an easy drive.
